Sivaji- the Boss..my Review..

My review on Sivaji:

The film that created such a huge hype has arrived now..wat next..Reviewing it..

The movie starts with an intense scene with people having mixed views on Sivaji and that arouses our curiosity.Rajni s introduction seemed a sensible one.Not much hoopla and not very simple..Was perfect.Then the flashback starts!Rajni, a software engineer from USA, comes to India with a plan of reforming the society by having plans to build hospitals,education centers that wud work to cater to the needs of poor..A shankar approach..This part of the film has two kinds of scenes repeating alternately.The first part is the comedy scenes involving rajni and vivek trying to “pazhagify” with the homely Thamizh kalaachaara shriya s family.The movie meanders through this part with bursts of laughter arousing comedies and a few mokkais here n there.But rajni s humor sense remains intact..The way he calls vivek “Maama” and some of his reactions..Wah!!superb!

The other part of this first half is about making his plans come true-the construction of his university..The way the procedure to do such things is explained reminds us again that we r in a shankar film.And sujatha sparkles with the technical dialogs related to law n legislation. But the extent to which such scenes are repeated makes one feel mundane.Then comes the most irritating part of the film..Rajni tries to get him coloured up..Though rajni gives his best, the scenes do not evoke a lot of response from the public..The theatre seemed a bit restless.

When sivaji pays every other person handsomely and starts work on construction,suddenly work stops due to hindrance from a minister.The minister is given 50 c and wat happens next..Our villain who s the kingmaker changes the minster.Sivaji gets furious this time not wishing to lend 50 c again.He wishes to go to court mortgaging his palace n other belongings..But in court, his case fails as he accepts having bribed officers.sivaji s university is sealed. Now,Singatha aadhi seshan seendiduvaar.Dialogs are powerful in this scene.Gives sivaji ONE RUPEE as pichai!
The boss does a stylish toss and its interval.

The boss then uses his brain and one rupee coin to get all the property papers of villain and plays the blackmail game..”Unnodadhula paadhi ya thandhudu..naa bajjiya sollala,panatha sonnen” gets huge response from the crowd.
Then he plays the game to perfection.Gets half the black money of many biggies(VMC Haneefa shines when sivaji meets him..hilarious scene!) and follows the Hawala principle to get the amount back in dollars in US.From there, through us living Indians, he converts the black into white money and here again shankar shines.
Suddenly,CBI comes to know about it..In between shriya becomes sivaji s wife..and the sivaji ganesan act of sivaji looks great!..Then, shriya lends the laptop of Sivaji to the CBI and without even opening it they arrest sivaji. The police harass and sivaji plans to get electrocuted to an extent where a doctor can save him with his expertise(which is shown in an irrelevant scene before).Then makes all believe sivaji is dead.

With his death certificate in hand,sivaji comes as MGR!!!..from here Sivaji gets absolutely LIVELY..With ARR s Blazee RAP behind,it was a huge releif..rajni as mgr was much much better than rajni as sivaji!..Then he kills the baddie in his own place and the credits come!

Director:Shankar comes out in just a few scenes which ve been scripted wisely.But certainly he has disappointed.

Actors:
Rajni – MGR literally rocks up the show in the final 20 mins..Sivaji s comedies are nice, and a few action punches r good..But nowhere near his best performances.
Vivek – Mouths a lot of dialogs, provides comical relief at times, puts hard mokkaihs otherwise..
Suman – acts wat he has been asked to..Not great..not bad..
Others – Don t have much role to play..

Music:
ARR S SONGS r superb with Art and costumes n choreo working well..
The sega fight aa and The RAP bgm for MGR provide wholesome entertainment..

Cinemato,stunts:
KV anand does a neat job..hasn t tried the unwanted ..Peter hein provides some comedy for children with the musical shop fight and the rest was ok..

VERDICT:
First half -> black skin to white skin..second half -> black money to white!
A commercial film which wud ve been ok if shankar wasn t the director..
Sivaji-the boss can win because of
Rajni – the mass
And MGRavichandran – the boss..But for this Guy, the movie wud ve been hopeless..
Otherwise, sivaji- the fuss is just sivaji – the buss..

Now, for all those who say sivaji rocks……..
I have a few doubts..

1.When he has big legal hurdles with his construction work and when he nearly comes to the verge of mortgaging his house,wat sense does the Black to white skin act mean?

2.When he is so serious about his reformation plans, does he need to stand in a chengalpet railway track n play senseless games;-)

3. When all other shankar films have had only public villains, here there s just one baddie and when he is killed the society is seen to ve been reformed..

4.Expenditure on songs!!!!!!!..songs look lavished and rocking..Adhiradee , Sahana and style were great..But wat about ballelakka..thalaivar praises thamizh mannu by singing in what looks like western ghats!

5.Wat about those “OFFICE ROOM” comedies..Those were serious scenes but didn t look like they were..If these scenes rocked, then please don t maintain double standards..Perarasu padatha dhayavu senju kevalapaduthaadheenga..

6. What was the need for a motta getup..I think they wud ve felt the movie might fail as it had nothing special until MG ravichandran arrives!..

7. The capital that sivaji has as a software engineer has no proofs..I was searching for one as it was a shankar film..

8. Vivek seems to ve spoken most of the dialogs in the film..

9.When CBI gets someone arrested, they don t ever allow policemen to harass him..And why do such scenes come in sivaji?

10. Raguvaran , while he saves the boy, says that there s just a chance of survival..But how does sivaji think that he l be saved if he electrocutes himself..Peak of surreal absurdity..

11. Without even getting into Sivaji s system, how can CBI arrest him??and adhukku mela how can they handle him to tn police without seeing the proof..?

12.If all these and some more doubts arise in any other actor s films, I m afraid no one will say the film ROCKS..but sivaji rocks for most!..How???????????????????????????????
